JOB SUMMARY

Leads all commissioning workstreams on a mid-sized project. Owns schedule, vendor interface, punch list resolution, and system turnover. Manages 20-60 team members. Key point of contact for construction and PM team. Delivers full system commissioning on a mid-scale project. Interfaces with PM, engineering, vendors. Manages team performance. This role is consistent with industry expectations, where recognized commissioning manager leads execution across several systems and interacts with client and construction, and plays a critical role in aligning Reliable Controls' internal project execution standards with external benchmarks. This role requires domestic and international travel to client sites and project locations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Owns full commissioning plan and execution across a mid-size project
  • Leads technicians, vendors, and engineers across disciplines
  • Delivers mechanical completion, energization, and system turnover
  • Interfaces with PM, QA/QC, and client to ensure progress and compliance
  • Develops commissioning procedures and team alignment


KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Project Leadership & Execution Oversight: Leads the full commissioning lifecycle on mid-sized projects, encompassing planning, execution, mechanical completion, and turnover. Ensures alignment between commissioning activities and project milestones. Drives performance across multiple systems and disciplines with accountability for quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
  • Strategic Vendor & Interface Management: Serves as the primary interface with vendors, engineering, QA/QC, and construction teams. Leads resolution of technical and execution issues through proactive coordination. Aligns vendor activities with the project schedule, validates test protocols, and drives integration across workstreams.
  • Turnover & Quality Accountability: Owns the delivery of system turnovers and ensures mechanical completion, energization, and documentation milestones are met. Verifies that all test documentation, punch list closeout, and client acceptance criteria are satisfied. Ensures turnover packages are complete, accurate, and meet both RCC and client standards.
  • Team Leadership & Performance Management: Manages large commissioning teams (20–60 personnel), including supervisors, technicians, and support staff. Establishes team priorities, provides technical direction, and evaluates individual and team performance. Fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the commissioning team.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Acts as the key commissioning contact for project management, construction, engineering, and client stakeholders. Delivers clear and concise updates on schedule, system readiness, and project risks. Facilitates issue resolution through cross-functional collaboration and maintains a proactive communication flow across disciplines.
  • Commissioning Planning & Procedure Development: Develops project-specific commissioning plans, work processes, and procedures. Establishes discipline integration plans and sequence of operations for pre-commissioning, function testing, and startup. Ensures alignment between field execution and technical documentation.
  • Risk Management & Problem Resolution: Identifies execution risks, technical challenges, and resource gaps early. Leads resolution strategies with engineering, vendors, and leadership. Demonstrates the ability to navigate complexity while maintaining progress toward turnover and energization milestones.
  • Execution Standards & Organizational Alignment: Champions RCC’s internal commissioning standards while ensuring alignment with client expectations and industry benchmarks. Provides feedback to improve RCC’s tools, templates, and processes. Supports continuous improvement and knowledge transfer across projects and teams.
  • Professionalism & Communication: Maintains a respectful and team-oriented attitude. Communicates effectively and seeks feedback to improve clarity and understanding.
  • Adaptability & Growth: Willing to take on new challenges, adapt to dynamic project needs, and actively seek learning opportunities. Open to feedback and demonstrates accountability in decision-making.
  • Supervision Level: Operates with a high degree of autonomy. Interfaces directly with Project Managers and may report to Senior or Regional Commissioning Managers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working on-site in heavy industrial environments mostly but not limited to mining and gas industries.
  • Extreme temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture
  • Slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; and at heights.
  • Hours of operation and employee schedules vary based on each project and may require irregular or extended hours and travel for project completion.
  • Travel, including both domestic and international.
  • Frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing, and reaching.
  • Exposure to noise, vibrations, well-treating chemicals, glycol, methanol, gasoline, natural gas, and liquid hydrocarbons.


REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree in relevant field (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Technology)
  • 4-8 years of field experience in a similar role.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to possess a passport for international travel.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires frequent travel, estimated at 50% to 80%, including both domestic and international assignments.
  • Candidates must have the flexibility to travel on short notice and for extended durations, including weekends as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for travel to job sites
  • Candidates must also possess, or be eligible to obtain, a passport and any required travel visas to support global operations.
