The Salt Lake City Weekly is Utah’s independent newspaper and is Salt Lake City's only free alternative newsweekly. It was founded in 1984 as “Private Eye” by John Saltas.

To provide thorough, relevant and interesting reporting and writing on local news, arts, and entertainment for the progressive, active, thoughtful residents of Salt Lake City and the environs. And in the process, set the standard for journalistic quality for this community.

The Salt Lake City Weekly is an independent publication dedicated to alternative news and news sources, and serves as a comprehensive entertainment guide. 40,000 copies of the Salt Lake City Weekly are free of charge at more than 1,500 locations along the Wasatch Front, limit one copy per reader. Additional copies of the paper may be purchased for $1 (Best of Utah and other special issues, $5) payable to the Salt Lake City Weekly in advance.
