Job Description

Tax Manager

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Work Arrangement: In-Person with Increasing Flexibility Over Time
Salary Range: $110,000–$140,000, depending on experience and qualifications

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join a growing tax and accounting firm with significant plans for continued expansion.

This is a great opportunity for someone who knows tax, enjoys working directly with clients, and wants to be part of a firm where they can make a real impact. We are looking for someone who can come in, take ownership of their work, and be a dependable part of a team that values strong judgment, accountability, and getting the job done.

Our culture is laid-back, straightforward, and flexible overall. We care much more about people doing strong work and meeting their responsibilities than creating unnecessary structure. That said, tax is a seasonal business, and there are naturally heavier periods of the year when deadlines and client needs require greater availability and less flexibility.

This is an in-person role to start. As trust, experience, and familiarity with the firm grow, there may be increased flexibility for remote work over time.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and review federal and state tax returns for individual and business clients
  • Take ownership of complex tax work and client matters from the start
  • Oversee the accuracy, quality, and timely completion of tax work
  • Work directly with clients and serve as a trusted resource for tax-related questions and planning
  • Research tax issues and apply sound professional judgment to client matters
  • Manage multiple client priorities and deadlines throughout the year
  • Provide direction, feedback, and support to junior team members
  • Help mentor and develop early-career tax professionals and college students as the firm expands
  • Work closely with firm leadership on tax planning opportunities and complex client matters
  • Participate in client meetings and help build long-term client relationships
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
  • Use technology and AI thoughtfully as tools to support efficiency while maintaining professional judgment, accuracy, and appropriate review
  • Take on increasing leadership and management responsibilities as the firm grows

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of professional tax experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation
  • Experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns
  • Ability to take on meaningful tax and client responsibility from the start
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional and confident when interacting directly with clients
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Willingness to work in the office and collaborate directly with the team
  • Interest in mentoring and developing junior professionals
  • Comfortable adapting to new technology and changes within the profession

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Previous experience supervising or managing employees
  • Experience mentoring or developing junior tax professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex client and tax matters

Why Join Us?

We are in a period of meaningful growth and are looking for people who want to grow with us.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced firm leadership and receive direct coaching and mentorship as you grow into the role. We are not expecting someone to walk in knowing everything or operate in a vacuum. The right person will be trusted with meaningful responsibility while also having direct access to firm leadership for support and development.

As the firm expands into additional Utah markets and beyond, including future growth opportunities in Idaho, there will be meaningful opportunities to increase your leadership responsibilities and help shape the future of the team.

We are not looking for someone who simply wants to process returns and move on to the next file. We want someone who cares about the quality of their work, communicates well with clients, and wants to be part of building something.

We also believe technology should make great professionals more effective. We are open to change, new ideas, and the thoughtful use of AI and other tools, while continuing to value experience, professional judgment, and attention to detail.

Benefits

  • Employer contribution toward health insurance premiums, currently covering 50% of individual and family coverage
  • 401(k) with a 4% employer match after six months of employment
  • Roth 401(k) option available
  • HSA participation available
  • Professional coaching and mentorship from firm leadership
  • Opportunity for increasing flexibility and remote work over time
  • Significant opportunity for professional and leadership growth as the firm expands

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000–$120,000 annually, depending on experience, credentials, leadership background, and overall qualifications.

Candidates at the upper end of the range will generally bring significant tax experience, strong technical capabilities, and the ability to take on a high level of client and leadership responsibility from the start.

Who Should Apply?

You may already be a Tax Manager looking for a firm where you can have greater influence and room to grow.

You may also be an experienced tax professional who has already been operating at a high level and is ready for greater leadership responsibility.

Either way, if you are detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working with clients, and interested in joining a growing firm where your work will matter, we would like to hear from you.
