About The Company:

Our client is a growing financial technology company specializing in consumer financing for residential solar and home improvement projects. The organization combines technology, lending expertise, and strategic industry partnerships to offer competitive financing options while creating an efficient experience for borrowers and installation partners.

Job Description:

The Consumer Loan Underwriter will assess residential solar and home improvement loan applications to determine borrower, credit, income, property, and project eligibility. This individual will review complex financial documentation, calculate qualifying income, communicate lending decisions, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to move applications through the underwriting process.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in consumer lending, preferably within solar financing or mortgage underwriting, and thrives in a high-volume, rapidly evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate consumer solar and home improvement loan applications within established approval limits.
  • Prepare clear recommendations for applications requiring additional review or higher lending authority.
  • Analyze borrower credit, income, property information, and overall loan eligibility.
  • Review supporting documents for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Complete detailed income calculations involving complex or nontraditional earnings.
  • Update loan records and application details based on newly received documentation.
  • Identify outstanding conditions and request any information needed to complete the underwriting review.
  • Assess solar project milestones and confirm that applicable requirements have been satisfied.
  • Clearly explain underwriting decisions and supporting rationale to internal stakeholders, borrowers, installation partners, auditors, and regulators.
  • Respond to underwriting-related questions through the company’s platform, email, and telephone.
  • Maintain timely communication with internal departments, external partners, and vendors.
  • Deliver a positive and responsive experience throughout the loan review process.
  • Participate in special assignments and operational initiatives as requested by leadership.
  • Recommend opportunities to strengthen underwriting procedures, workflows, and service levels.

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience underwriting consumer loans.
  • Previous solar lending experience is strongly preferred.
  • Mortgage underwriting experience may be considered due to the transferable lending and income-analysis skills.
  • Strong knowledge of credit review, income verification, loan documentation, and lending decisions.
  • Experience handling detailed or complex income calculations.
  • Ability to explain underwriting decisions clearly in both written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to balance multiple competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where processes and priorities may shift.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Workspace, email and calendar platforms, and Slack.
  • College degree preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Genuine interest in developing expertise within the residential solar financing industry.

Perks:

  • Hybrid work arrangement.
  • Employer-paid portion of medical, dental, vision, and disability coverage.
  • Benefits begin after 30 days of employment.
  • Ten company-paid holidays.
  • Unlimited paid time off following the initial 90-day period.
  • Annual company bonus opportunity.
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching.
  • Unique annual vacation incentive program.
