Professional Land Surveyor
Job Description
Job Description
Every parcel of land holds a unique history, a complex puzzle of overlapping deeds, shifting baselines, and physical evidence waiting to be decoded. At Hansen and Associates, we are seeking more than just a data processor—we need a licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead our Survey Department, act as our technical anchor, and safeguard the integrity of our projects.
If you are a surveyor who takes immense pride in flawless boundary resolution, thrives on unearthing historical county records as much as analyzing point clouds, and desires the autonomy to guide a department your own way, this is where you belong.
What’s in It for You
Let’s look at the facts—with a valuable, hard-earned license, you have your choice of workplaces. Here is why you should choose to put your professional stamp on projects with Hansen and Associates:
-
True Professional Autonomy: You are the head of the department. We trust your judgment, respect your expertise, and give you the space to run your projects and lead your team without micromanagement.
-
A Massive Financial Headstart: A 6% 401(k) company match means we are directly investing in your long-term future, alongside a highly competitive base salary and performance bonuses that reward your efficiency.
-
Zero Commute Costs: With a dedicated company truck and fuel card, your daily commute and field visits are entirely covered. That is thousands of dollars back in your pocket every year.
-
Total Project Ownership: You aren't just drafting parts of a puzzle. You see projects through from historical deed research to the final legal stamp, collaborating directly with clients and our internal civil engineering partners.
Why Surveyors Choose Hansen and Associates
-
The Best Gear, No Questions Asked: We don't believe in fighting outdated equipment. We invest heavily in the tools that make your life easier: Leica and Trimble Robotic Total Stations, high-precision RTK GNSS receivers, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Next-Gen Drone/UAV photogrammetry.
-
A True Seat at the Table: You aren't just an afterthought to the engineering team. You will be the direct point of contact for clients, ensuring surveying is integrated correctly from day one.
-
We Protect Your Field Time (But Respect the Office): This is a leadership role, but we know true surveyors still love the smell of fresh air. You’ll have a company truck for those times when a complex boundary requires your personal eye in the field.
What You’ll Do (Your Day-to-Day)
-
Solve the Puzzle: Lead boundary analysis, ALTA/NSPS title surveys, topographic maps, and subdivision plats.
-
Dig Into the History: Conduct deep historical deed research at county offices and via digital databases to trace the true intent of original descriptions.
-
Own the Final Product: Provide QA/QC and apply your final legal stamp and signature on all official survey deliverables.
-
Process and Perfect: Reduce and verify raw field data collected by crew members, turning chaos into precise, legally airtight metes-and-bounds descriptions.
-
Pass the Torch: Mentor and guide our junior field technicians and Surveyors-in-Training (LSIT), building the next generation of great surveyors.
What You Bring to the Team
-
The Credentials: An active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in the state of Utah is required.
-
The Mileage: 6+ years of progressive land surveying experience. If you’ve spent time in the mud as a Crew Chief or Project Surveyor before getting your license, that’s a massive plus.
-
The Tech Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent survey data processing software.
-
The Grit: A willingness to get out of the office and work alongside crews in varying Utah terrain and weather conditions when a project demands field verification.
-
The Basics: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving history.
