Closet Factory Salt Lake specializes in designing and manufacturing custom cabinetry and storage solutions. We are committed to high-quality craftsmanship and continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes.

Position Overview:
We are seeking an Engineering Student Intern to support Lean Manufacturing initiatives within our cabinet production operations. Must have knowledge in improving efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing workflows in a real-world manufacturing environment. The position is ideal for students interested in Six-Sigma Lean Manufacturing(Six Sigma is a method for disciplined quality improvement that provides the tools organizations need to improve the capability of the business processes ), industrial, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering, with the opportunity to continue part-time during the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze cabinet manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
  • Assist in implementing lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, and standard work practices
  • Support workflow optimization in cutting, assembly, and finishing operations
  • Collect and analyze production data to track key performance metrics
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and team meetings
  • Document processes, layouts, and standard operating procedures
  • Work collaboratively with production staff, supervisors, and engineering support

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data tracking or analysis preferred
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Hands-on mindset and willingness to engage on the production floor
  • Exposure to Six Sigma or process improvement methodologies

Preferred (but not required):

  • Experience with woodworking, cabinetry, or manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with CAD software or shop drawings.
